A farmer in Ava, Missouri placed a live trap after finding feathers scattered between bales of hay in what looked to be a make-shift den of some predator, according to Fox News.
When he checked later and saw what was inside, the farmer emailed the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in neighboring Arkansas for assistance and they took the cat to their facility around 2 hours away.
The group posted a video on their Facebook page of the rescue. In the video, the farmer’s son said, “Whenever it was little, I came home late one night, and it runs across the road … I thought, ‘wow, that was a crazy-looking cat.'”
African serval cats have longer ears, necks, legs, and torsos relative to size than domesticated cats or native bobcats. According to The refuge, the captured animal was around 30 pounds and around 6 years old.
